Group Therapy has a lot of
advantages, but it is not for everyone.
Members can expect to gain a sense of personal power, become a better communicator,
and improve their symptoms of anxiety and depression. Each member must have worked with Betty Heck on an individual
basis to start the empowerment process before admission to group. We work to break the cycle of unhealthy relationship patterns
of communication and interaction
ADVANTAGES OF GROUP:
1. It is economical-less money for more treatment time.
2. You gain perspectives from multiple people, not just me. You get to practice skills that are
taught to you in our individual sessions which usually translates into change in your personal life.
3. Group with certain constraints help to reproduce
the dynamics of your family of origin or current relationship dynamics and patterns. Since I work to make the environment
safe for its members, you may be able to work through your issues with group members when you may not be able to work it out
with the person in your life. It is my experience that miraculous things happen in group and change occurs more quickly in
group than in individual counseling many times.
WHAT ARE THE RULES OF GROUP?
1. You must commit to attending group regularly. You must commit
to scheduling your other activities in your life around group.
2. You can have no outside contact with other group members. If you see one another out,
you may wave or say hello, but that is all. Once a member graduates or completes
group, that person may have contact with group members.
3. Who you see in group and what is said in group, must stay in group. If you need
to talk about things that happen in group, outside of group, that will need to occur in our individual sessions.
4. You will be given guidelines to follow in
group to help the group experience be most beneficial to you and others.
5. We go by first names only. We
do not talk about topics that defocus us from our purpose.
GROUP
TIMES AND DAYS
Groups meet the same day and time twice monthly. Since I relocated in Louisville,
I only have one group right now, but that will change. I will recommend the group that is most beneficial to you. I
will have evening and Saturday groups.
Groups are uni-sex and of course the focus of
men's group will be different than women's group.
