COUNSELING SERVICES WHAT IS COUNSELING LIKE? At your first appointment you will be greeted by
friendly staff who will work to make you feel comfortable. You will have some paperwork to fill out and receive a handbook.
You will have a thorough assessment of your mental, behavioral, and emotional health. This will last 45-50 minutes. By the
end of the session the clinician will be able to give you an initial impression with recommendations. Your opinion and questions
are very important and always used in your treatment. If Life Designs is the right place to address these issues, and you
feel you can work with your therapist, you will be scheduled another appointment. You will be given homework to identify your
strengths, goals, and challenges. The next visit we will begin to work on your plan of treatment. A plan of treatment consists
of your strengths, issues and goals as well as the clinicians plan to help you achieve your goals. Many times it will take
several sessions to make a complete assessment and final recommendations. This occurs with complex cases, court, and other
referrals. You may also be asked to bring family or someone close to you to a session. Their feedback will assist in the assessment
and possibly the resolution of the issues. By the third session you should have a good idea of how long treatment will last,
what your responsibilities are and how the clinician is going to help you make these changes. Once the treatment plan is completely
acceptable to you, you are asked to sign it which signifies your plan to follow it. Then the real work begins.
